Are you taking a Western Caribbean cruise and stopping in Isla Roatan? If so, welcome to our beautiful island home! We are thrilled to show you our lush tropical island, which is surrounded by the world’s second-largest barrier reef system. You’ll see stunning natural beauty during your visit, plus you’ll get to meet some of us who live here. We’re excited to show you around!
About Isla Roatan
To learn more about Isla Roatan, let’s go over some basic information so you have a better idea about our island. Roatan is the largest of the Bay Islands, a series of islands owned by Honduras and located off the northern coast in the Caribbean Sea.
Roatan was claimed by both the Spanish and the British over a period of several centuries, so our history is uniquely mixed. Most Roatan island families today speak English as our first language, but schools are taught all in Spanish.
When you visit Isla Roatan by cruise, you’ll either dock at the Port of Roatan in Coxen Hole, or at Mahogany Bay. Mahogany Bay is located just next to our own private Jolly Roger Marina, where we keep all our catamarans, and where our kitchen produces our delicious buffet lunch daily.
Roatan is a Natural Beauty
Roatan is a lush, green island – which isn’t like many other Caribbean islands! We enjoy lots of natural vegetation covering our island, leading many people to call us the Gem of the Caribbean. Our turquoise waters surrounding vibrant green rolling hills helps us stand out as a special piece of paradise.
During your Jolly Roger Catamaran tour, you’ll see lots of the coastline as we cruise to our snorkeling site, enjoy about an hour of exploring the underwater wonders, and then cruise or sail back toward the dock after a fantastic buffet lunch. If you come by bus to reach our waiting catamaran, you’ll also get to see more of the interior of Roatan. You’ll pass through local neighborhoods and see some commercial activity as well. It’s a great way to learn more about our island home!
Learn More About Roatan
During your tour, don’t be afraid to ask questions of our wonderful crew. We’re all local islanders who love sharing information about our home. Whether it’s the sights you’re seeing, the fish you’re spotting, or anything about our culture and people, we are more than happy to answer your questions.
Welcome to Isla Roatan, we hope you have a fantastic day of fun in the sun with us at Jolly Roger!
